MPP: Data Warehousing at Scale with SQLDW & APS
2016TL; DR
Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) database systems are designed to deliver analytical performance at scale. This pre-con introduces you to MPP; accelerating your development skills and practical experience using Azure SQL Data Warehouse and APS.
Session Details
Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) database systems are designed to deliver performance at scale. This one day session will give you an excellent foundation in the concepts underpinning MPP. It will also accelerate your development skills and practical experience using Azure SQL Data Warehouse and APS.
This pre-con will contain a number of lab exercises that you will be able to work do both on site and complete at home at your leisure.
JRJ is a Principal Program Manager for Microsoft. His focus and passion is MPP. He developed the APS training course material and co-authored many topics on azure for Azure SQL Data Warehouse.
Topics covered in the days session will include:

Agnostic, Hybrid Big Data Integration using PDW and PolyBase
PolyBase is one of the most exciting, innovative features in PDW; enabling transparent data integration with Hadoop's distributed file system (HDFS) and Windows Azure Storage Blobs (WASB). See it in action.
Demonstrating PDW integration with Hadoop & Polybase
Polybase is one of the most exciting, innovative features in PDW; enabling transparent data integration with Hadoop's distributed file system (HDFS) and soon Windows Azure Storage Blobs (WASB). See it in action.
The Art of War-Fast Track Data Warehouse & Fragmentation
When loading a Fast Track Data Warehouse it is important to ensure that your data is optimally laid out for Sequential I/O. Fragmentation is therefore the enemy. Know your enemy. Learn what it is, how it occurs and prevent it from happening to you!
