Log Shipping for SQL Server
Proposed session for SQLBits 2026TL; DR
Log shipping is a well-established and flexible technique for replicating data, offering disaster recovery and high availability opportunities, and includes capabilities not available in other SQL Server HA/DR features.
Session Details
This session will cover the features and administration of log shipping in SQL Server. We will describe the basics of transaction logs, high availability and disaster recovery, and how log shipping can be used in those scenarios. We will demonstrate the Log Shipping Wizard, and also use the stored procedures to script a log shipping configuration. We will also demonstrate customized log shipping for scenarios where the built-in log shipping may not be adequate, such as log shipping from on-premises to cloud locations. We will also discuss how log shipping can be used to migrate to an Availability Group configuration, and other scenarios.
