Reitse Eskens

Reitse began his computer days with GW Basic and quickly followed with Windows 3.11. After that, many computers followed, and, interrupted by human resource and psychology studies, he got into the IT work field around 2007. There, he encountered Oracle 9, which had a command line from 1980. At his current job, he met SQL Server. And loved it. Now he’s working with SQL 2008 to SQL 2019 on-premises and several Azure SQL Databases, supporting customers and tuning databases. New projects focus more on the Azure data platform as an architect, security advisor and data engineer. They include Fabric (Lakehouse and Realtime solutions), Data Factory and Synapse Analytics.

Loadtesting Fabric II, the sequelSQLBits 2026

In this session, I'll help you learn the differences between Lakehouse, SQLDB, and Warehouse performance, processing speed and cost. I'll also demonstrate how the Realtime stack can serve as a viable alternative for ingestion and processing flat files in terms of speed, scalability and ease of use. After this session, you'll walk away with real-life insights from Fabric and knowledge of which buttons not to press.

SQL 2025, SSMS 22 and Fabric. And they mirrored happily ever after?SQLBits 2026

SQL Server 2025 and Fabric offer the option to directly mirror your data from the database into Microsoft Fabric. This offloads the analytics from your on-premises environment to the cloud. Let me show you how this works, what caveats there are and how to setup security.
